Storage Setup – Add a new storage provider

We learnt how to download and install XfilesPro in the previous page. We will now understand what Storage Setup is and how to configure storage providers.

Storage Setup is a point where you can setup an external storage, be it cloud or non-cloud storage. Storage Setup allows end-users to

  • Setup a new storage provider &
  • Manage an existing external storage

The storage setup screen looks like the below screen.

This is where you can add a new external storage, view existing storages & manage these storages.In the above screen, we can see a list of storages added and we have two buttons: Amazon S3 & button: Google Drive on the top-right corner which allows you to configure cloud storage providers.

Let’s see what all options we get when we click each of these buttons.

 

button:AmazonS3

When we click on this button, a dialog box comes up asking us to enter the following information –

  • Provider Name: You can set any name in this option. This provider name will help you identify your provider which you are going to set up.
  • Provider Access Key: You need to enter the access key of Amazon S3 account that you own or your organization must have given it to you. Click here to know how to create an Amazon S3 access key.
  • Provider Access Secret Key: You need to enter the secret key of Amazon S3 account that you own or your organization must have given it to you. Click here to know how to create an Amazon S3 secret key 
  • Once you enter the details and click on Validate, it will ask you to select a bucket from your Amazon S3. It will then prompt you to pick an object where we want our external storage to be configured.
Please note- You can pick multiple objects and configure the same Amazon S3 on multiple objects. Once you configure Amazon S3, you will see it in a list like the below screen –

When we click on this button, a dialog box comes up asking us to enter the following information –

  • Provider Name: You can set any name in this option. This provider name will help you identify your provider which you are going to set up.
  • Root Folder Name: When you enter a root folder name, XfilesPro will create a folder in your Google Drive with the name you gave in this field. All your files uploaded will be saved in this folder.
  • Set Your Google App: To ease things for the end-users, XfilesPro team has created a common Google App which allows any client to use this Google App ensuring their data is not shared/transmitted to anyone. It is highly secured.

IMP Note: You can use the default Google App which XfilesPro team provides to its customers by default. If you wish to create your own Google App and configure XfilesPro, then you need to mention a provider access key and a provider secret key.   • Let us enter a provider name and mention a root folder name in it.
  • Once you enter the details and click on Validate.

 

  • It will ask you to allow force.com to view and manage files in XfilesPro. Please click on ALLOW and authenticate yourself by entering your google user name and password.
  • Please note: Let’s say you do not get this screen and you get a message like the below screen, then please copy the highlighted part and send it to us at  contact@xfilespro.com .We need to add this url(domain name) internally in our system to allow Google Drive configuration in your org.
  • Once XfilesPro team gets back to you with a confirmation email that your domain name has been added internally in their system, you can proceed to the next steps.
  • After validating your credentials, you will be prompted to select an object(s) where you want Google Drive to be configured.
  • Select one or more objects from the drop-down. 
    Please note – You can pick multiple objects and configure the same external storage on multiple objects.
  • Click on SUBMIT and your GDrive is now configured as an external storage.
  • You can now use GDrive as your external storage.
